A "paeremes". Overall length 32 cm. Length of handle 11 cm. Handle made of stained boxwood. Featuring on top two horses. The elaborate carving shows a pipe smoking peasant behind a plow drawn by another horse. Inside the cage a little ball. In front a plant in a pot, flanked by two birds. The knife is marked "De Jager Middelburg". The knife handle was possibly made by Trieller in Biggekerke on the island of Walcheren in the 19th Century. The carving is of superb quality.
