A large 19th c. Swiss clockmakers mandrel in superb functioning condition.

A large mandrel of brass and steel. Height on original mahogany stand 31 cm. Overall length 60 cm. The mandrel is hand-driven by a four spoked wheel with an ebony knob. This type of hand-driven Swiss mandrel is extensively described in the book "Horological Shop Tools" by Theodore Crom. The mandrel has a cross table, a support, an extra spindle and a removable turning center. The instrument is in impeccable working condition and was manufactured in the late 19th C.
