A painted wooden schoolbox. High 38 cm. Wide 20,5 cm. Deep 7 cm. On the lid a painted windmill. On the edges the stencilled decorations characteristic for the area around the Frisian village "IJlst". The entire box is decorated except for the back. The box shows signs of use and has a repair to the side of the lid. Friesland, around 1850.
