Watercolour of a Kingfisher from Ambon. Dutch 18th.

Watercolour of a bird. 16 x 11 cm. Inscribed on the old mount: "Ispida Ambonnensis Cristala Linn.no 3 ex Collectione Rumphii. Ambonsche IJsvogel uit de verzameling van Rumphius"(Ambonnese Kingfisher from the collection of Rumphius).The drawing has been attributed to Johannes le Francq van Berkheij (1729-1813), at the time doctor of medicine and natural  history at Leiden University. An identical bird still lives on Java and Bali.Provenance:
