A large 18th C. oval painted box with an Ottoman warrior.

A painted oval box. Wide 45 cm, deep 28 cm, and high 18 cm. On the lid a hand painted Ottoman warrior on a horse, surrounded by the text: "Ich Sprenge was ich kann Auf meine Feinde an" (I jump as much as I can on my enemies). Overall in good condition with some loss of paint on the lid. In 1683 the Ottoman army was on the brink of occupying Vienna. In the 18th century fear of the Ottomans was still a popular subject.
