A boxwood knitting sheath. Overall length 21,5 cm. Length of puppet 9 cm. The carving shows a man with an animal on a double leash, probably a dog. Behind him a bucket with a handle. On top a hole for the needle. This type of sheath was used to hold an extra needle, in order to make socks and other garments that require "round" knitting. It was used by men(mainly shepherds) only. The sheath was inserted in the belt. This sheath is in mint condition without repairs or damages. Zeeland 18th C.
