The knob of a pilgrims walking stick. Height 7,5 cm. Overall length 7,5 cm. The knob is made of the horn of a hart (see the photo of a deers antlers). It was reportably found in an ancient excavation site near the Maas river in Maastricht. It shows a delicately carved eagles head and on the back the image of St Jacob. This refers to the goal of the pilgrimage: Santiago the Compostella. After the big flood in 1582 this pilgrims journey became quite popular. The knob is, considering its age, in a remarkably good condition.
